Course Description
If you have never used a sewing a sewing machine before (or it has been a while...), then you have found the right course for you!
This is an approximately eleven week programme designed to begin you on your sewing journey. Starting with the basics of how to set up your sewing machine, over the course of the programme, you will learn all the essential skills you need to create your own skirt. You can see a list of just some of the skills covered in Level 1 above.
Along the way, you will create your own samples for your workbook of all the techniques that you will be able to refer back to at home any time, and a range of other projects including a bowl cosy, tablet pouch, cup cosy and more...
You will also learn how to prepare and follow a pattern, leaving the class with a full pattern for your finished skirt.
This course is suitable for complete beginners or those needing to refresh their skills. If there are skills in the list above that you are not sure of and would like to learn then this is the perfect course for you. If you feel that you know these skills and are looking for something more, check out the details of our Level 2, 3 and Stretch sewing classes.

Book a Level 1
Complete Beginner Class
If you don't see a day of the week, time of day or start date that suits you, please use the Waiting List page to sign up to be informed of any spaces at The Auld Atelier as they become available.
Please note: Due to the popularity of the classes, there can be times when classes aren't available to book. Many people choose to continue on to Level 2, then 3, and then the Stretch Class which means that Level 1 spaces do not become available very often, but I have to believe that that is because the students each feel they are getting real value for money from their classes.
Holidays
I understand that people may be sick, have an unavoidable appointment or have a holiday booked. You can find full details of this on our Missed Classes & Catch Ups Policy page. However, if you are concerned that you already know that you would need more than 1-2 weeks off though, please get in touch to discuss what you need.
There will be no classes over the festive season - between 23rd December and 4th January, though exact holiday dates can be agreed with each class as we approach them.
December
This class start date is projected as there is still a class working on Monday afternoons which needs to finish first. If the start date needs to be moved to the following week, anyone who has booked a place will be informed.
There are currently no Level 1 classes available to book, but please use the Contact page to be added to the waiting list and to let me know the days and times you are/are not available.
