Adult Classes
The Auld Atelier runs classes in a bright, well equipped studio in Paisley for all abilities throughout the week, with daytime and evening classes available. These (approximately) 11 week blocks for adults run weekly for 2.5 hours each week. Currently, there are a range of levels which develop your skills with the sewing machine, overlocker and working with both woven and stretchy fabrics (depending on the chosen class). It is the intention to run classes for children and teenagers as well, but at this time, we are only taking bookings for adult beginners.
Whilst all of our tables and chairs are height adjustable to accommodate as many people as possible, people under approximately 140cm may find it difficult to reach the foot pedal. Our machines do have hand controls if those are necessary. If you are unsure, please get in touch.
At The Auld Atelier, whether you've never touched a sewing machine before or you have some projects under your belt but would like to develop your repertoire of techniques and/or build your confidence, we have a class to suit you.
Every class is structured to:
-
build your knowledge of sewing techniques
-
build your skills by adding samples of techniques learned to your workbook which you will be able to refer back to in the future
-
create a variety of projects to bring those techniques to life.
Every block of classes builds to you creating a final garment. You will be provided with a paper pattern to use in class and a digital file of your patterns if you want to make them again at home.
You will receive a workbook with all of the skills, projects and spaces for your samples, cloud access to all of your patterns, and fabric to make all of your projects except for the garment projects for which you will provide the fabric yourself. Assistance will be given in class to select appropriate fabric.
At this time, we are offering Level 1, 2 and 3 sewing classes as well as a Stretch Class for working with stretchy, knit fabrics. The different levels of classes are linked below, but if you are uncertain of which class is most appropriate, please don't hesitate to get in touch so that we can work it out together.
Not all classes are necessarily available at the same time but do please complete the Waiting List form to register your interest if there are no suitable classes available at this time.
